Municipal & Governmental Liability Litigation
Best & Sharp’s Governmental Liability Litigation Practice Group knows that governmental bodies need legal counsel with experience handling issues that are unique, varied, and complex. From complicated land use issues to personal injury matters to civil rights and Section 1983 claims, Best & Sharp has provided legal advice and representation to municipalities throughout Oklahoma. In addition to providing representation in litigation matters, Best & Sharp has also provided clients with counsel on how to protect themselves against the risks of litigation. Over the years, Best & Sharp has substantially expanded its practice in this arena, and has represented various governments and their officials, both directly and through municipal insurance coverage. Our attorneys provide experienced counsel in governmental liability, civil rights and Section 1983 claims, land use, eminent domain, labor and employment issues, general negligence and personal injury actions, and general municipal law matters. Oklahoma has its own set of unique laws in the form of the Oklahoma Governmental Tort Claims Act, and our attorneys have a thorough familiarity with the requirements of that Act and with the manner in which such claims are litigated in Oklahoma. Municipal and governmental liability claims also can involve federal questions, and those questions often arise in federal courts in Oklahoma. Attorneys at Best & Sharp are licensed to practice in all three federal district courts in Oklahoma, and have an active presence in each.
